U of A researcher seeking volunteers for study on back pain

A researcher in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Alberta is seeking volunteers for a research study on exercise and low back pain. People with low back pain will be randomly assigned to one of two different exercise programs. Keshotu Leadership Academy presents “A Better Tomorrow”

Keshotu Leadership Academy uses the performing arts to provide leadership training for youth of African heritage. “A Better Tomorrow” is written and performed by Edmonton youth. Theatre A Go-Go celebrates learning with special guest artist Treffrey Deerfoot.

Performances are “Daisy Head Maizie,” by Dr. Seuss, with special hip hop choreography by Lauren Thompson, and “The Bear Who Stole the Chinook,” an adaptation of a Blackfoot legend, by Frances Fraser, with special guest artist Treffrey Deerfoot, who uses traditional Blackfoot stories of creation to inspire young people to recognize their gifts and realize that stories have spiritual and social significance. Grades 4 and 5 SnowPass from the Canadian Ski Council

The Canadian Ski Council has created the Grades 4 and 5 SnowPass program to make it easy and affordable for parents to get their kids skiing or snowboarding. Pick up a SnowPass for your child today and you’ll get up to three free lift tickets at participating ski areas across Canada. Registration in the SnowPass program is open to any child in Grade 4 or 5 (born in 2000 or 2001). To register a child you can get an application at a participating Sport Chek, Sports Mart, Sport Experts or Intersport store. Or you can visit www.snowpass.ca, upload your child’s picture and proof of age, and enter your method of payment. Your child’s personalized SnowPass will be mailed directly to your home. Calgary Education Fair takes place in May

This year’s fair will be held on May 28 from 9 to 4. It includes a used curriculum sale, fabulous presentations on the stage and an outstanding exhibit hall. The Calgary Education Fair is an excellent opportunity to shop for new ideas, identify choices in education and support student academic success. The used curriculum sale runs from 9 till 1. Admission is $5 for adults after 10 AM; no charge for students. Before 10 AM admission is free for everyone. Spanish Education Buffet at the Instituto Cervantes, in Calgary

This winter and spring, the Instituto Cervantes is proud to offer the 2011 Spanish Education Buffet, a series of professional development workshops for Spanish instructors of all levels. The courses are facilitated by international experts and take place at the Department of French, Italian and Spanish, University of Calgary, on Friday evenings and Saturdays from March to June. Prospective registrants are encouraged to enrol as early as possible, because each course is limited to 24 participants, and spots fill up quickly.
